Wave Top Bag Making Machine: 4 Bag Types & Buying Guide

A wave top carry-out bag making machine produces plastic bags with a curved top edge for takeaway food, drinks and retail purchases. Bag dimensions, handle layout, gusset and intended load all matter when choosing a machine.
Our SSD-1100-GS-L1 covers four bag formats. Compare its specifications with your requirements and with our ST-88 T-shirt bag machine.

How Does a Wave Top Bag Making Machine Work?
Our SSD-1100-GS-L1 converts film rolls into finished bags in one computer-controlled side-sealing line. Automatic film feeding requires no manual tension adjustment. The standard servo motor allows adjustment of bag length and production speed, and the machine stops when film runs out or a print registration mark is not detected. A punching unit provides single- and two-line output; confirm the arrangement for your bag design.

Wave Top Bag Machine vs. Supermarket T-shirt Bag Machine
A supermarket bag making machine can refer to equipment for several shopping bag formats. Our ST-88 makes T-shirt (vest) checkout bags, while our SSD-1100-GS-L1 makes curved-top carry bags and the specialty formats described here.
| SSD-1100-GS-L1 | ST-88 | |
|---|---|---|
| Machine type | Side seal | T-shirt bag, 2 lines |
| Main bag types | Wave top carry-out, cup carrier, wet umbrella, newspaper bags | T-shirt (vest) bags, shopping bags |
| Bag length | 400–1000 mm | 350–650 mm |
| Bag width | 150–900 mm | 160–365 mm |
| Film thickness | 0.008–0.035 mm | 0.008–0.05 mm |
| Speed | 100–200 pcs/min | 180–250 pcs/min/line |
When comparing output, check whether each speed is stated per line or for the whole machine. The ST-88 figure is per line; confirm the basis of the SSD-1100-GS-L1 rate with us.

Choosing a Wave Top Bag Making Machine
Send us a finished bag sample or a dimensioned drawing. We can review the bag design and tooling requirements against the SSD-1100-GS-L1 specifications.
| Bag type | Design consideration | What to confirm with us |
|---|---|---|
| Wave top carry-out bags | Top profile, handle layout and any bottom gusset | Finished width and length; gusset measurement and required tooling |
| Beverage cup carrier bags | Cup support and handle layout | Cup count, cup dimensions, bag size and any gusset |
| Wet umbrella bags | Sleeve dimensions and dispenser attachment | Finished width and length; compatibility with the intended dispenser |
| Plastic newspaper bags | Thin film within 0.008–0.035 mm | Your film gauge and bag size |
Alongside your bag drawing, include these production requirements in your inquiry:
- Film and load : State the film material, thickness and intended contents. Film thickness alone does not establish material compatibility.
- Changeover : Which tooling and settings need to change between your bag formats, and how long will the change take?
- Output : State your required production volume and confirm the applicable output rate and single- or two-line punching arrangement.
- Printed film and installation : Include the artwork and registration mark layout. Allow for a separate 6 HP air compressor, which is not included with the machine.
FAQ
How do I choose a plastic takeaway bag making machine for wave top bags?
Start with the bag design and intended load, then use the format-specific checklist above to prepare your inquiry.
Is a sine wave bag making machine the same as a wave top bag machine?
"Sine wave" and "wave top" refer to related curved-top bag designs. The exact profile and handle layout can vary, so use a drawing or sample to specify the bag you need.
Can a wet umbrella bag making machine also make beverage cup carrier bags?
Yes. Our SSD-1100-GS-L1 makes both wet umbrella bags and beverage cup carrier bags. Contact us to discuss the tooling and changeover requirements for your designs.
How fast is the SSD-1100-GS-L1?
The SSD-1100-GS-L1 production speed is 100–200 bags/min.
What film thickness can a wave top bag making machine handle?
Our SSD-1100-GS-L1 handles 8–35 micron film. Confirm material compatibility separately; other wave top machines may have different thickness limits.
Is a wave top bag machine the same as a supermarket bag making machine?
It depends on the bag format. The SSD-1100-GS-L1 makes wave top carry bags; the ST-88 makes T-shirt (vest) bags. Choose by the finished bag design rather than the general term "supermarket bag machine".
Can a wave top bag making machine produce garbage bags on rolls?
Some wave top machines produce garbage bags on rolls. Our SSD-1100-GS-L1 makes carry-out, cup carrier, wet umbrella and newspaper bags.
